UNSMIL releases candidates for three presidential council members and prime minister

this United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) It was announced on Friday morning that four lists of candidates for the three members of the Presidential Council and the post of Prime Minister had been received, which were submitted before the established deadline and received the required number of support, in accordance with the provisions of the electoral mechanism adopted on January 19 by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).

UNSMIL is encouraged by the active participation in the process and the diversity of the composition of the list.

The list of candidates, in the order in which they were received by UNSMIL, is as follows:

Listing 1:

  • Mohammad Hassan Suleiman Bargati (Chairman of the Presidential Council)
  • Ali Abu Khojob (member of the Presidential Council);
  • Idris Suleiman Ahmed Al-Kaaid (member of the Presidential Council);
  • Mohammed Khalid Abdullah Al-Gwair (Prime Minister)

Listing 2:

  • Sharif Wafi (Chairman of the Presidential Council);
  • Abdul Rahman Mohammad Abu Qasim Barazi (member of the Presidential Council);
  • Omar Mahdi Abushrida (member of the Presidential Council);
  • Mohammed Abdul-Latef Montaser (Prime Minister)

Listing 3:

  • Mohammed Younis Menfi (Chairman of the Presidential Council)
  • Mosa Kony (member of the Presidential Council);
  • Abdullah Hussein Rafi (member of the Presidential Council);
  • Abdul Hamid Mohamed Dbeibah (Prime Minister)

Listing 4:

  • Azila Saleh Quaid (Chairman of the Presidential Council)
  • Osama Abdul Salam al-Juwali (member of the Presidential Council);
  • Abdul Majid Ghaith Saif al-Nasr (member of the Presidential Council);
  • Fathi Ali Abdul Salam Bashaga (Prime Minister)

The LPDF will meet today at 9:30am Geneva time to vote on the list. The required selection threshold is 60% of valid votes.

If no list reaches that threshold, a second round of voting will be held for the two lists that received the highest number of votes in the first round.

The threshold for the second round is 50% of the valid votes + 1.
