News agency Africa Intelligence reported that a French court will hear Libya’s legal action on March 16 challenging an arbitration ruling that requires Libya to pay nearly 50 million euros to Turkish construction company Cengiz.
According to Africa Intelligence, both parties are due to appear before the Paris Court of Appeal in what is expected to be a tense hearing.
The report said, “Tripoli is seeking to overturn a 2019 arbitration award made by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris – a highly unusual claim in this kind of legal dispute.” An ICC judge ordered Libya to pay 50 million euros in damages to the Turkish company Cengiz, “which has not yet sought to enforce the award by seizing Libyan assets.”
