A court in Ciudad del Este passed a judicial decision last night, convicting the couple who abused the girl and the victim’s parents, who had in fact sold her for the purpose of abusing her.
The case gained notoriety because the girl, then just 7 years old, gave chilling details of what she had experienced to a couple who owned the apartment where she lived with her parents near Ciudad del Este.
After the Public Ministry got involved, formal proceedings began against his parents, the owner of the house they were living in, and his partner.
Everything was demonstrated during the oral trial, which was closely watched by organizations defending children’s rights, who also celebrated the court’s decision.
The abuser, who paid the parents to abuse the girl, was sentenced to 26 years in prison, while his accomplice, who also participated in the acts, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The victim’s parents were sentenced to 23 years in prison.
The court was composed of Thursday Diego Duarte, Gloria Vera and Margarita Palacios, while the prosecution was represented by lawyer Viviana Coronel.
During the hearing, which was attended only by the parties and their representatives, heartbreaking details of the abuse suffered by the minor were revealed, which, according to forensic and victimology reports, caused serious physical and mental damage to the little girl, for which she has been receiving permanent medical and emotional support to overcome the trauma experienced and not affect their personal development.
