The GDF helicopter crash left five people dead and only two people alive.

The Guyana Defence Force lost five experienced and highly decorated servicemen. Only two members of the ill-fated helicopter survived. The two survivors were co-pilot Lieutenant Andio Crawford and crew member Dwayne Johnson.

The helicopter was found on a cliff near Ekereku. The helicopter went missing yesterday after refuelling in Olive Creek. The Guyana Defence Force immediately launched a search and rescue operation. The helicopter crashed in bad weather and sent an emergency locator signal about 30 miles east of Alau, Essequibo. Guyana Defence Force soldiers are carrying out command duties for troops in the border area.
