Now in its sixth year, Momentum’s annual #SheOwnsHerSuccess event is once again roaring back to spark an important and necessary conversation with South Africans about helping women succeed. Under the impactful theme ‘My Success is by Design’, the financial services provider will shed light on the importance of challenging the established path to success for women and the barriers they face on this journey.

Women continue to face internal and external barriers as they strive to achieve social, professional and relationship success. The World Economic Forum also states that it will take another 136 years to close the gender gap – a staggering statistic that shows that women’s success is both a moral and economic imperative.

Susanna Wolff MBE is a global advocate for women’s success and the lead speaker for Momentum’s annual Masterclass seminar series. She is a former professional racing driver and current Managing Director of the F1 Academy. Through the seminars, she will provide the tools to support women to unlock their power and take control of their own success stories. Wolff embodies what it means to design success on your own terms, no matter what challenges you face.

Momentum’s exciting Masterclass workshops are a two-day series of virtual and in-person workshops that will take place from 14th to 17th August.

A strong panel of speakers will also be brought together by inspiring, knowledgeable women who are experts in their fields. Audiences can look forward to a series of introspective and engaging masterclasses, ‘fireside chats’ and entertainment programmes, with guests including news anchor and Pure Folk owner Mpho Sithole, legal expert Sinal Govender and psychologist Sanera Maharaj. This will also include an in-depth discussion with entrepreneur Makentse Mampeule and UN Resident Coordinator in South Africa Nelson Muffuh on the role of alliances in helping women succeed.

The unstoppable success of women in sports

This year, the world welcomed the first Olympic Games in history to feature an equal number of male and female athletes. However, when the Games are over and support for female athletes fades, women in sports are facing the same harsh reality.

Women are fragile, emotional and less capable. These are just some of the stereotypes about women in sports that prevent them from advancing in their careers. What’s more, lack of access to resources for success, such as financial advice or how to secure sponsorships and brand partnerships, puts women at a disadvantage compared to male athletes.

Attendees can look forward to a host of exciting presentations, including sports social media and digital strategist Nqobile Ndlovu, who will delve into how female athletes can achieve financial success. Sibu Mabena of Duma Collective will also share insights on how to build your personal brand and reputation.

Additionally, Harvard professor Anita Elberse will join the lineup for the second year in a row as she walks participants through a series of case studies on the world’s greatest athletes and how they achieved success, showcasing how athletes can commercialize their athletic talents.

“South Africa has many talented female athletes waiting to take their place on the local and global sporting stage, but they need the tools and expertise to secure sponsorships and endorsements and succeed. Understanding how to position themselves as commercially viable brands is key and Momentum’s Women Making a Difference in Sport Summit is the platform to help them do just that,” said Mdikane.

“We are delighted to have the likes of Susie Wolfe and Professor Anita Elbers join us at this event as Momentum is committed to helping women succeed,” added Mdikane.
