The case was first reported to the Magina Police Station for investigation.
Homa Bay County Police Chief Hassan Barua said preliminary investigations showed the landlord was suspected of illegally connecting electricity.
He said further investigation into the incident was ongoing. The official said all connections had to be approved by Kenya Power before people could start using them.
“Let those who want to connect electricity to their homes use the right channel, which is to apply to Kenya Power. We don’t want people to lose their lives in this way,” Barua said.
