An officer of Tihar jail has been suspended for misconduct after a photo of him allegedly dancing and brandishing a pistol at a party surfaced on social media, officials said on Friday.
In the 18-second video, Deepak Sharma, who works as an assistant superintendent of police at Mandoli jail, can be seen swaying to the Bollywood song “Khalnayak hoon main” at a party hosted by a political leader in east Delhi. Two men can be seen dancing with him.
Witnesses said several shots were fired into the air at the party, but police could not confirm this.
An official said Sharma has been suspended for misconduct and a fact-finding notice has been issued to the superintendent of jail No. 15 where he was posted.
A senior police officer said they have also written to the licensing department of Delhi Police seeking necessary action in the matter.
Sharma is popular on social media and has 440,000 followers on Instagram, where he often posts pictures of himself working out in the gym.
As jail superintendent, Sharma was involved in the raid on the barracks of alleged crook Sukesh Chandrashekar in Tihar jail.
Mandoli jail is a part of Tihar jail complex.
