Jakarta(ANTARA) –
The national data center (PDN) in Cikarang, West Java, is scheduled to be operational by 2025, said Hokky Situngkir, director general of applications and informatics at Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Information.
“Overall, progress on infrastructure and design has increased by several percentage points compared to last month, and we are constantly evaluating safety, backup and design,” he said at the Transportation Ministry’s headquarters in Jakarta on Friday.
In the initial stage of PDN operation, the ministry will adopt a managed service solution, which means that the service will be managed by a third party.
Although the ministry will not directly manage the Cikarang PDN, it will still be involved in assisting third parties responsible for managing digital infrastructure.
The National Network and Cryptography Agency (BSSN) will also be involved in the management of Cikarang PDN to ensure optimal network security.
“From the beginning, we have been trying to involve BSSN and even in the evaluation of multiple aspects, they have given instructions, suggestions and evaluations,” Situngkir said.
The Cikarang power grid was constructed using an intergovernmental financing model, with the French government contributing €164,679,680 (approximately US$179.9 million).
This will be the first government-owned data center and its presence is expected to integrate data from various ministries and agencies.
Through system integration, PDN is expected to improve the governance of government public services and make them more optimized.
In addition to the Cikarang PDN, the government is also planning to build data centers in two other locations – Batam in the Riau Islands and Nusantara, the new capital of Indonesia in East Kalimantan.
