The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the impeachment of Freddy Belleris, who was not sworn in as mayor, stressing that the attitude of the neighbouring countries constitutes a new approach.

At the same time, Greek diplomacy stressed that the decision of the Albanian Central Election Commission heralds the end of a process full of question marks related to the fundamental principles of the rule of law.

“Greece promptly expressed its strong concern about the deprivation of the presumption of innocence, the integrity of the evidentiary process, the prohibition of swearing and the imposition of disproportionate penalties, as well as the fact that the Municipality of Himaras has been under administration for a long time. The “year of the illegal person” was highlighted in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again stressed the obligation of the Albanian authorities to take all necessary measures to immediately provide Freddy Belleris, now elected MEP, with the opportunity to participate in the work, starting from the plenary session in Strasbourg on July 16.
