Waste management company VEMCO is currently sorting the waste into containers.

Garbage is sorted and put into containers. Previously, the Waste Management Company Limited (VEMCO) transported waste to Theilafushi by loading it onto barges. This method did not differentiate between different types of waste.

Michael Ahmed Sharif, senior public relations officer at VEMCO, told PSM News that waste will be separated and put into containers. This will save time in waste sorting. VEMCO said it will also increase efforts to make profits from the garbage.

Previously, garbage was brought to Theilafushi by barges, but VEMCO said the garbage container lift has solved the problem.

“The waste in the city is mainly divided into three categories, which are plastic bottles, garbage and other waste. So VEMCO is doing the sorting of waste types and making a profit from the waste,” Michael explained.

VEMCO has started delivering the garbage to Theilafushi in separate containers and has also launched a new service where it will start collecting the garbage to the transfer station from this month.
