Xinhua News Agency, Bangkok, December 19 (Reporter Chen Cong) According to Thai News Agency, Thai highway police intercepted a pickup truck loaded with vegetables in Chumphon Province in the south on the 19th, with 1.3 million methamphetamine pills hidden in the car.
Highway police stationed in Chumphon province set up checkpoints to prevent crime and illegal smuggling ahead of Christmas and New Year and spotted a suspicious pickup truck on Phetkasem Road in Hat Krai subdistrict, Chumphon province.
Police searched the vehicle, which was carrying 12 baskets of vegetables, and found a small bag containing 1.3 million methamphetamine pills hidden in each basket.
The pill’s black market value is estimated at 390 million baht, or about $12.74 million.
The driver was named as Ong-art Sengya, 39, a Hmong living in the northern province of Chiang Mai.
Wong Art said he was hired by vegetable vendors to deliver drugs to a major drug dealer on the southern Thai tourist island of Phuket.
