State Secretary Zsolt Szabó makes first working visit to Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire | News Report

The Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Relations and Digitalization, Zsolt Szabó, will pay a working visit to Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire from August 11 to 16, 2024.
This is the first working visit of the new Secretary of State to the Kingdom in the Caribbean. He will then visit the Windward Islands. This first visit is mainly to get to know the Islands and the administrative staff. During the visit, the Secretary of State will meet with the Governors, Prime Ministers and other Ministers of Aruba and Curaçao, as well as the Governor of Bonaire.

Aruba

State Secretary Saab’s working visit will begin on August 11 in Aruba, where he will meet with Aruban Governor Alfonso Bockhout, Prime Minister Evelyn Weaver-Cross, and other ministers from Weaver-Cross’s cabinet. Zolt Saab will also meet with Parliament Speaker Edgar Frolik and get to know members of the Kingdom Relations Committee. The itinerary also includes a visit to the KIA prison and the Aruban National Archives, a visit to St. Nicolas, and a meeting with business representatives. In addition, the State Secretary will be informed of the progress of the national package.

Curacao

On Tuesday, August 13, the Secretary of State will travel to Curaçao, where he will have a series of itineraries. For example, the Secretary of State will meet with Governor Lucille George-Wout, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and other ministers of Pisas’ cabinet, as well as with the President of Parliament Charetti America-Francisca and members of the Kingdom Relations Committee. In addition, the Secretary of State will visit the island during which various important (economic) developments will be discussed, and meetings are planned with the National Reform Commission and the Governors of the Central Banks of Curaçao and Sint Maarten. Finally, the Secretary of State will also meet with partners in the judicial field and visit the Parreira Naval Base, where he will receive a report on the activities of the Coast Guard.

Bonaire

After leaving Curaçao, the State Secretary will travel to Bonaire for an introductory meeting with the new Governor of the Island, John Soriano, and Acting Kingdom Representative Jan Helmond. The trip will also include a presentation to members of the Executive Committee, a visit to the North of Bonaire, the salt pans, the Bonaire Marine Park, and a presentation to members of the Central Dialogue, a local advisory body made up of employers, unions, local governments and chambers of commerce.

On Friday, August 16, State Secretary Saab will return to the Netherlands.
