Seoul, South Korea Wednesday, June 5, 2024: The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, held bilateral talks with his South Korean counterpart, Yoon Suk-Yeol, at the Presidential Palace yesterday.

During the meeting, the leaders of the two countries spoke highly of the good relations between the two countries and expressed their eagerness to strengthen bilateral cooperation and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

President Ramkalawan expressed his gratitude to President Yeol for the warm reception given to the Seychelles delegation during their stay in Korea and Congratulations to South Korea on the successful hosting of the first South Korea-Africa Summit.

“Thank you for inviting me to this vitally important summit and for the warm hospitality you have extended to me and my delegation since we arrived in the vibrant city of Seoul. Seychelles is very pleased with the excellent relations it enjoys with South Korea, which are continuously strengthened through our active engagement in both bilateral and multilateral spheres.

“I am confident that Mr. Jung Kang, the South Korean Ambassador to the Republic of Seychelles, who will assume office in March 2024, will play a key role in maintaining and strengthening the existing relations between our two countries. The South Korean Government and I remain committed to working closely with your Government to open up new avenues of cooperation. I invite South Korean investors to consider the possibilities of Seychelles’ presence, especially in the fields of technology and fisheries,” said President Ramkalawan.

President Hyer said that the two countries could explore potential cooperation in a number of areas, including fisheries and the blue economy, which are very important to Seychelles. He praised Seychelles for being the first country to issue sovereign blue bonds and expressed the hope to further cooperate with Seychelles in the blue economy and fisheries.

The bilateral meeting was also attended by Mr. Jean-François Ferrari, Minister Designate and Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Seychelles, Mr. Sylvester Radegonde, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ambassador Anne La Fortuna, Ambassador of Seychelles to Beijing (Japan and South Korea) and Ms. Ingrid Labrosse, Second Secretary/Official of South Korea.
