The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavell Ramkalawan, has expressed his condolences on the death of music pioneer Thomas Alexis.
“On behalf of the nation and myself, we extend our warmest, strongest and bravest wishes to his wife, family and friends on the occasion of the passing of Mr Thomas Alexis. Mr Alexis was a music icon in Seychelles and contributed immensely to the music scene here. Not only was he a composer but during his career at the Conservatoire he was a lecturer and head of the music programme where he imparted his knowledge of music and undoubtedly touched many hearts. His legacy lives on and we remember him through the many songs he dedicated to the nation. He will be fondly missed and songs like ‘Manman Mon manman’ will always be part of his legacy and our culture. May his soul rest in peace.”
