More old trees were uprooted on Saturday as the port city was hit by sporadic heavy rain and strong winds.
Muhammad Saad Jamali, a pedestrian, was killed when a tree suddenly fell on him while he was passing through Qaim Al Mansoor Park in Federal Area 16, B. The victim was rushed to Abbas Shaheed Hospital and the police handed over the body to his heirs after completing the forensic formalities.
In another incident, five persons were trapped when stairs of a residential building collapsed near Burhani Hospital in Alabagh area.
Fortunately, the 1122 rescue team responded quickly and successfully rescued the trapped people, including two children, a man and two women, and evacuated other people in the building.
Affected by the monsoon system over the Bay of Bengal, Sujani town received 226 mm of rainfall in five days (Tuesday to Saturday), the highest in the city. Sujani town also received the highest rainfall in the entire month of August, at 385 mm.

Due to the recent monsoon, Gulshan-e-Maymar recorded 75.6 mm rainfall, Jinnah Terminus 75 mm, Masroor Base 62.5 mm, Bin Qasim 56.3 mm, Orangi Town 44.3 mm, DHA Phase II 43 mm and Sadar 37 mm.
