Mehboba Mufti has made serious accusations against the central government. Mufti said: “Those who used to distribute hawala funds to terrorist commanders are being promoted.” Mufti further emphasized: “The government should check the background of these parties before supporting them.”
Mehbooba Mufti accused the central government of promoting political parties involved in the hawala money scam to continuously distribute money to terrorist leaders and seize their share. She urged the government to investigate the incident.
People’s Democratic Party Chairman Meboba Mufti arrived in Choping today to pay tribute to the people’s party workers and former village chiefs who were killed in the terrorist attack. Mufti stressed that the government should provide employment opportunities to the wives of the slain PPP workers as soon as possible and said the incident should be investigated.
Addressing her opponents, she said: “The people behind this attack may be the same people who ran hawala rackets in the valley to benefit terrorist leaders. Today they want to sour the atmosphere and get people to boycott the elections. This way they can benefit from the election.”
Mehbooba Mufti further said: “Whatever happens is bad. He has children. Mufti asked the government to provide a job to the wife of the murdered PPP worker as soon as possible as she has no one to support her family.”
Terming the incident as a conspiracy, Mufti said, “On one hand, people are saying that the situation here is good and on the other hand, there are terror attacks in south Kashmir which raises suspicion. It should be investigated how someone entered someone’s house. This is not happening now because they (Central government) are saying militancy is over. There was an attack on tourists in Pahalgam which had never happened before.” Mufti criticised the government for claiming that the situation in the Valley has improved and terrorism has ended.
The Mufti did not stop there. She did not name her opponents, but blamed the central government, “You have to see which group is behind the scenes, they want to boycott here and don’t want a good vote to happen. They have had relationships before, and they used them to bring havoc Wara money is then distributed to militants who provide guns to our youth. Is there such a group that wants to spoil the atmosphere and make people not vote? I think the government should look into this,” Mufti said.
Mehbooba claimed that the Anantnag-Rajori constituency was creating an atmosphere of fear that kept people away from polling stations, while those in the general public who did not want to vote were winning elections through boycott. “Voters are being intimidated. Why are these attacks happening now that Srinagar and Pulwama have polled well and the government says the battle is over?
Taking a dig at the central government, Mufti said the backgrounds of these parties supported by the central government should be investigated. How they used to bring hawala funds here and distribute them to militant leaders. They kept some of the money for themselves and gave some to them (the terrorists). The government needs to see if there is any connection.
Meboba Mufti is the PDP candidate from Anantnag-Rajouri constituency, and her rivals are NC’s Mian Altaf and APNI candidate Zafar Manhas, who is also backed by Sajjad Loan. It is said that the APNI Party and Sajjad Loan’s People’s Conference are backed by the BJP, which is why the elections in Anantnag-Rajouri constituency were postponed to give the APNI candidate time to consolidate his position.
