A man in his twenties has survived after being trapped in his car in a ravine for several hours.

At around 1 a.m., a motorist lost control of his vehicle in the town of Ajoupa-Bouillon and it plunged to the bottom of a ravine, leaving no signs of having left the road.

Due to low battery, the driver was unable to accurately indicate his location and could only call his family.

Those who received the alert called emergency services, who deployed a military police helicopter.

Although thermal imaging cameras were unable to operate due to weather and the rugged terrain of the search area, crews received reflective alerts when scanning the area with headlamps.

Ground troops continued their search and found the vehicle and driver trapped in the passenger compartment at 5:30 a.m.

The Operational Crossing Specialist from the Intervention Platoon arrived on scene quickly and took the victim to the roadside so that he could be cared for by SAMU.

The county said that without the tenacity of the military police soldiers and their complex technical skills in the most dire situations, the accident victims’ chances of survival would be almost zero.
