Martinique, pound blocked: director “begs” authorities to act

Since January 29, order in the department has been thrown into disarray by clashes that have put the future of eight employees at risk. The Director-General wishes to inform Martinique of the serious consequences of the blockade. Extract from his open letter.

The conflict was initiated by the Centrale Syndicale des Travailleurs Martiniquais and three striking employees of the company after an employee was fired for serious behavior.

In particular, the employee damaged a company truck worth nearly €150,000 and destroyed a customer’s vehicle worth €19,000.

Since January 29, the CSTM union has been forcing its hand in a matter that has nothing to do with it, and directly demanded the reinstatement of the dismissed employees.

For seven weeks, the union and three striking employees blocked the company’s entrances and exits, and the latter prevented five other employees from entering the workplace through pressure, physical threats and various insults.

As an entrepreneur, I, Hubert, can no longer tolerate this! I therefore implore the authorities to enforce the rights of Martinican workers, to allow non-striking employees access to workplaces and to put an end to this action that destroys jobs and local companies, which is being deliberately carried out by the Martinican Government.
