Israel’s armed forces said they carried out a targeted strike in Beirut. The strike, according to the armed forces, was aimed at killing a key commander of the Lebanese extremist group Hezbollah, who Israel said was responsible for Saturday’s attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Twelve children were killed in that attack.

According to two Reuters sources, Cmdr. Fuad Shukr AFP reportedly found two people dead in the attack, according to an unnamed source.

An AFP photographer at the scene said the impact hit an eight-storey building and ambulances were at the scene.

Lebanon’s national news agency NNA reported that the attack targeted Hezbollah’s decision-making body in Haret Hreik, a suburb of Beirut. Qatar’s Al Jazeera go through NNA said two floors of the building had collapsed.

Israel has been expecting retaliatory attacks on Lebanon since it launched airstrikes on the Golan Heights last Saturday.
