As their daughter Helen entered her teenage years, Briony and her argued frequently about dates and time. At the time, Pete was spending more and more time on the golf course to escape family problems. Their arguments increased, and Briony grew increasingly resentful. At first, she thought these were normal marital problems, as many of her friends were going through similar problems. While she wasn’t extremely unhappy, she noticed that the laughter in her marriage was gone, and they were both so focused on their jobs that they didn’t realize how far they had drifted.

Eighteen years after Helen left home, Briony suddenly felt like she had married a complete stranger.

She had hoped that being alone would recreate the intimacy of their early years, but instead they became more distant. She tried to talk to Pete and even joined his world by going to the golf club, but he did not appreciate her efforts. After a particularly tense night, she suggested that they find a common hobby together, but Pete just shrugged it off.

At one point, Pete comments: – Now we’re stuck with each other – which causes Briony’s fear. She suggests counseling, but he immediately rejects the idea. He doesn’t care about her pain, but… He throws himself into work, golf, and watching sports on TV.

Britney had seriously considered leaving six years ago, but she didn’t have the financial means at the time. That’s why she started making plans. She had been working part-time when Helen was born, and ten years ago she started her own virtual assistant business. She registered the business under her maiden name, which was the first sign that she was considering divorce.

She told Pete about the venture, but he was so focused on his soccer game that he didn’t even notice her trying to tell him about the job. Five years ago, she set up her workspace in the old playroom and then moved into a spare bedroom. She told Pete it was because of the early mornings required for work, but it was another step in her emotional withdrawal.

Peter showed more concern for a while, but that only lasted a few weeks. Since then, they have stopped having physical relations completely, and now Briony can’t even imagine returning to their marriage bed.

She no longer had the emotional connection she needed to enjoy intimacy, and was turned off by the thought that Pete might have someone else. Around the same year, she took off her wedding ring, saying it was too tight for her because of the hot weather. She never put it back on, and Pete never mentioned it.

Briony no longer felt like part of the couple. Now he considered himself a separate person.

One day, when they took Helen and her fiancé out to dinner, she reserved a table using her maiden name, and Pete didn’t even notice the waiter addressing them that way. Although they used to plan outings together, Briony now no longer thinks of Pete when booking theater tickets or planning outings.

Two years ago, her virtual assistant business took off, allowing her to quit her part-time job and save about €30,000 for a getaway. Pete never showed any interest in her business, so he didn’t even ask questions about the finances.

Briony was firm in her decision. Pete would live in their rented home, but he would still be able to afford it on his own. He wanted to maintain a good relationship, especially for Helen’s sake.

Bryony plans to leave Pete after Helen’s December wedding to avoid drama at this important event. The date he will leave has been confirmed – January 15th.

Stay around, arrange a new apartment, and then just leave, leaving Pete with no choice but to accept it. Although Pete didn’t notice any signs that she was unhappy, Blaney believed that he would be shocked when she finally told him she was leaving.

Bryony believes Pete might wonder what’s wrong with her recent transformation – she’s lost weight and dyed her grey hair. You might think he’s having an affair, but that’s not the case in her case. While she hasn’t ruled out dating again one day, it’s not her focus at the moment. Her main goal is to get out of a marriage that’s left her feeling lonely and resentful.

Recalling who she and Pete had been and who they were now, Britney felt sad, but not guilty. The thought of a future with Pete, where she might have to take care of him because of the age difference – he was ten years older than she was – filled her with dread. He didn’t want that fate. By leaving now, he would know what he was doing, and she wouldn’t feel responsible for his happiness.

Briony does everything she can to save the marriage. She tries to talk to him, suggests dates, and even offers counseling, but Pete ignores her. His ignorance becomes apparent when he fails to notice numerous signs that she intends to leave him. She leaves real estate information on the kitchen table, another clear sign of her plans. His forgetfulness only emphasizes how little he notices her needs.

While she didn’t feel guilty about leaving, she was more worried about how her daughter Helen would react. While she believed Helen would understand because she had witnessed Pete’s selfishness, Briony was worried that Helen would still be sad. She wrote that he was also worried that Helen would feel responsible for taking care of her father, which Briony didn’t want her daughter to do. sun.
