Kathmandu, June 15. Former champions Italy have been eliminated from the last 16 of the 2024 European Championship.
Italy’s journey to the last 16 came to an end on Saturday after they lost 2-0 to Switzerland in their first knockout match, becoming the first team to reach the quarterfinals.
The match was held at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Switzerland scored one goal in each half. Remo Fruler scored in the 37th minute to give Switzerland the lead. Ruben Vargas doubled Switzerland’s lead in the first minute of the second half. Former champions Italy tried to come back from two goals down but failed to score and were eliminated.
Switzerland will now face the winner between England and Slovakia in the quarter-finals.
