A fire broke out in the Virgen de Lujan community in South Barnardo late Friday night into early Saturday morning.

The fire may have started in a house used as a warehouse for recyclable materials. The owner reported that it was all started by drug addicts in the area who she found stealing materials from her yard.

“I knew them by their nicknames, they were a gang that always acted like this. I went to the police station and my grandson also came and told me, ‘They’ve burned your house down, mom,'” explained the woman, who works in recycling alongside other families in the area.

“The cargo has been melted, millions of dollars have been lost, I have many families working in recycling. The pigs, weighing about 150 kilograms each, cried and died, burned to death,” he added.

The fire was caused by flammable items such as cardboard, rubber, plastic, lids and stationery, and then spread to some nearby houses, causing significant damage, including a farm.

Following the incident, nearby residents demanded that the authorities respond quickly and arrest the perpetrators.
