The 2020 Curitiba Comics Biennial will be held online.
The 6th Manga Biennale, originally scheduled for August 6-9, was postponed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and a virtual version was prepared for August 20-23, 2020.
The theme will be the relationship between music and comics, and the program will feature workshops, lectures, chats and debates via Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and the Biennale website (https://bit.ly/39X5Fk3).
Three virtual exhibitions will be hosted on the Biennale’s website, including “Punk Alfonso,” organized by Curitiba Jibitca in memory of the recently deceased comics artist Roberto Bellato.
Another virtual exhibition will be “Illustrations of the Underground 2: Visual Art in the Curitiba Music Scene”, the second edition organized by Christiano C. Neto and Daniel Gonçalves, which opened in Gibitca, Curitiba as part of the Psycho Carnival 2020 program.
The exhibition “Luiz Gê and Arrigo Barnabé” will also be held in memory of Luiz Gê, the comics artist who won the award at the 6th Biennial.
The programme includes debates and lectures via Facebook and YouTube, as well as creative cartooning, stencil drawing, comics and webcomics workshops via Zoom
The Biennale will promote the “Public Biennale” through the Comic Circular of the FCC Fund. In this edition, comics, texts or animations will be selected for online and printed publications, curated and edited by Fabio Zimbres. The works selected in the online category will be exhibited on the official website of the Biennale, and the printed publication will be distributed free of charge at the next physical event in 2021.
