Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Simplex Chithyola Banda, has said he will not stop disbursing funds to members of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), adding that whenever he finds the money, he will spend it on party members.

The minister, who is in the running for the party secretary general post, made the statement recently, apparently in direct response to reports nation The newspaper has continuously reported on him and Homeland Security Minister Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, who have come under the spotlight for distributing funds to delegates ahead of the August 8-10, 2024 party congress.
“Whenever I find money, I will spend it on my party members. Whether people report it or not, the money I earn will be spent on my party members,” Chitiola Banda said.
Chitiola Banda recently told delegates during a meeting in Blantyre on Wednesday that he had donated K5 million to the party’s candidate in the July 23 Chilaweni District by-election.
He also promised to buy 200 chairs for the party offices.
The minister later gifted cash, branded umbrellas and T-shirts to the party workers.
The delegates included representatives from the MCP Southern Region and the districts of Neno, Phalombe, Chikwawa, Mulanje and Nsanje.
Also present at the meeting were over 10 MCP councillors including Olipa Chimangeni of Ntchisi North East, Lobin Lowe of Lilongwe Central, Ken Kandodo Banda of Kasungu Central and Kafanikhale Mandevana of Nsanje Central.
Chimangeni in his speech asked Chiti Olabanda to buy buses for the party after he was elected secretary general, saying women should not travel in trucks to party events.
Kandodo Banda, for his part, commended Chichola Banda for his commitment to helping party members but said the party should incorporate itself to improve its financial situation.
