ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is an international standard for identifying books by title, author, country, publisher and edition. The numbering system is identified using barcodes.
In Brazil, where the ISBN was introduced in 1972, the institution responsible for generating these numbers is the National Library. However, from 2020, the Brazilian Book Chamber will be in charge of managing the service, following a decision by the International ISBN Agency.
