President Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by Vice President Ahmed Afif, yesterday attended the official opening of the “Vilaz Prosperite” residential complex in Belombre.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of keys to the new residents and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, with President Ramkalawan and Lands and Housing Minister Billy Rangasamy declaring the estate officially open.

The project will provide accommodation for 16 families in a total of 16 units, comprising two residential buildings: 8 three-bedroom units in Building A and 8 two-bedroom units in Building B. The project, fully funded by the government at a cost of just over SCR 16 million, demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing for its people.

In his welcome address, Minister Rangasamy expressed his heartfelt satisfaction and recognition for the concerted efforts of all parties involved in making the project a reality. The Minister stressed the importance of living in a peaceful and harmonious environment. He urged the new residents to fight any social ills within the small community, aiming to build a model village and pursue prosperity, as the new name “Vilaz Prosperite” suggests. The Minister encouraged the new residents and new applicants to continue contributing to the Housing Savings Scheme (HSS), stressing that the government is committed to expanding its efforts to provide numerous additional housing projects.

In his address to the guests, His Excellency Sandy Arisor, Member-Elect of the National Assembly for Belombre District, congratulated and thanked the new residents for their continued contributions, patience and dedication. His Excellency Arisor expressed his gratitude to the government for completing the third housing project in Belombre District in the past three years. He also encouraged all new applicants to continue to contribute to the Housing Savings Scheme (HSS). He urged the new residents of “Vilaz Prosperite” to live in peace, love, solidarity and tolerance.

Also present at the ceremony were the Minister of Transport, Mr. Antony Derjacques, the Minister of Education, Dr. Justin Valentin, the National Assembly Member for Belombre, Sandy Arrisol, the Chief Secretary, the District Administrator, MLH officials, the new residents of the Vilaz Prosperite Estate and other invited guests.
