It could be the effect of the Easter dinner, but the infection curve is starting to rise again, as are the deaths, while the pressure on hospitals remains largely unchanged, with a slight increase in hospitalizations in the health sector. The usual weekly monitoring of the International Space Station, checked this morning in the control room, illustrates the situation of the epidemic in Italy on the eve of saying goodbye to green passes and masks in many indoor places.
In fact, the weekly case incidence rate rose from 675 to 699, while the infection index Rt fell from 0.96 to just 0.93.
Bed occupancy rates fell slightly, from 4.2% to 3.8% in intensive care units and from 15.8% to 15.6% in medical departments, but there are the usual regional differences, since in Calabria the rate is 28.5% and in Umbria even 31.4%, while in Lombardy it does not exceed 12.4% and in Piedmont it is 11.6%.
However, the fact is that, after a sharp drop last week, new cases of Covid-19 are rising again in Italy. From April 20 to 26, the figure increased by 22.7% compared to the previous week, from 353,193 to 433,321. There are 11 provinces with an incidence rate of more than 1,000 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and all regions have seen an increase in the percentage of new cases: from +2.9% in Piedmont to +44.8% in Basilicata. The number of tests increased by 11.7%, from 2,294,395 in the week of April 13 to 19 to 2,563,195 in the week of April 20 to 26.
The average number of new cases per day has risen to nearly 62,000, the molecular positivity rate is over 18%, and the number of positive cases has exceeded 1.23 million, which, according to the Kimbe Foundation, is largely underestimated.
