German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has announced that he will run for chancellor again. “As chancellor, I will run for chancellor again,” he said today at his traditional summer press conference in Berlin.
The SPD is a very closed party. “We are all determined to run together in the next federal election and win.”
Scholz had previously been asked if he wanted to follow the example of US President Joe Biden, who has announced he will not run for president. “Thank you for the very friendly question,” Scholz said at the time.
The next federal election is scheduled for September 28, 2025. The Federal Cabinet also makes recommendations accordingly. The Federal President makes the final decision, but he usually follows the advice of the Federal Government.
