Premier George Fergusson announced today (December 2) that Attorney General Rory Field’s term in office has been extended for another year, until the end of 2014.
A spokesman said: “Our intention since Mr Field’s reappointment in 2010 has been that, if possible, his successor should be a Bermudian.”
“As a result, a competition for the position was launched earlier this year, restricted to Bermudian candidates only. As a result, only one application was received.
“The Governor convened a panel, chaired by the Deputy Governor, to advise him on the appointment. After some consideration, the panel recommended that the candidate met the criteria for appointment, subject to a recommended transition period.
“The Governor accepted the recommendation and proceeded to implement it. However, in light of certain subsequent developments, the appointment could no longer proceed.
“The Governor thanks Mr. Field for agreeing to allow him to serve for another year.”
