Today, Foreign Minister Hank Bruins-Slote and Mayor of The Hague Jan van Zaanen announced that the 2025 NATO Summit will take place at the World Forum in The Hague. The Summit will take place from 24 to 26 June 2025. This is the first time that the Netherlands will host a NATO Summit.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg: “I am pleased to announce that the 2025 NATO Summit will be held at the World Forum in The Hague from 24 to 26 June 2025. We are grateful to the Netherlands for agreeing to host this meeting for the first time. The Netherlands is a founding member of NATO and makes an important contribution to NATO’s deterrence and defence. At our Summit, leaders will take decisions to continue to adapt and strengthen our Alliance to the rapidly changing security environment. Working together, we in NATO will be stronger and more secure.”

NATO has been protecting the Netherlands for 75 years. As a NATO ally, the Netherlands is better protected against major and complex threats such as war, terrorism or cyber attacks. Being a reliable NATO ally is therefore an important investment in our security.

Foreign Minister Hank Bruins-Slote: “Peace and security cannot be neglected. In these turbulent times when Russia is waging a large-scale war on the European continent, NATO is vital for our security, freedom and values. By hosting the NATO Summit, the Netherlands can further consolidate its position as a reliable ally.”

Summit Attendees

At the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, the Netherlands was invited to host the 2025 summit. About 45 heads of state and government, 45 foreign ministers, 45 defense ministers and about 6,000 delegates will travel to the Netherlands for the summit. About 2,000 journalists are also expected to travel to the country. In total, about 8,500 people are expected to attend the summit.

Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren: “NATO is more important than ever. The current world situation shows the need for NATO countries to stand together and show solidarity. This summit underlines the importance of this cooperation.”

Public Forum

During the NATO Summit, the NATO Public Forum will also be held at the Summit venue (by invitation only). The Forum will provide a space for interactive meetings and debates between young people, politicians, journalists, opinion makers, academics and experts. Forum participants (about 500 people) will discuss the topics discussed during the Summit.

Jan van Zanen, Mayor of The Hague: “The Hague is a host city for the world. We are delighted to welcome the NATO Summit to The Hague. This is a great responsibility and a huge honour, something the city and its inhabitants should be proud of. As an international city for peace and justice, The Hague will be a fantastic host for this Summit.”

Major logistics operations

The organization of a NATO summit is one of the biggest logistical undertakings the Netherlands has seen in decades. A large number of governments and other organizations will be involved. Extra effort and flexibility are required from all of these organizations and their staff in order for a NATO summit to run smoothly.
