Turin. May 1 is Labor Day, a historical event with a long tradition. The idea to celebrate this anniversary was born at a congress in Paris in 1889, inspired by an event that took place three years earlier in Chicago on May 1, where one could see how the mastery of work and the love of a profession led to the creation of extraordinary works.

Luigi Sapelli, as he is known, born in Pinerolo in 1865 and died in Milan in 1936, managed to work miracles with fabrics, creating incredibly beautiful theatrical costumes. In fact, he made a real revolution in the profession of the costume designer, who usually created what was suggested to him, restoring the authority of this professional figure, who did not consider theatrical costumes as simple disguises, but an interpretation of the characteristics of his character in the public eye.

Accorsi-Ometto Foundation
The Accorsi-Ometto Foundation presents the exhibition “On stage! Light and color in Caramba costumes”, curated by Silvia Mira, with around forty costumes selected from the extensive De Valle Collection in Turin. On display are some of the emblematic pieces of the Casa d’Arte Caramba, founded in Milan in 1909, including precious samples for the play Paris for the Annunciation and for Toscanini’s Turandot, which premiered at La Scala in Milan in 1926. It is also possible to see Renaissance costumes made of precious velvet by Mariano Fortuny, as well as the costumes of Elisa Cegani and Luisa Ferida designed by Gino Carlo Sensani for Alessandro Blasetti’s 1941 film The Iron Crown. Sunday at the Museum
This year, May 1st falls on a Sunday, which coincides with the return of the Ministry of Culture’s “Sunday Museums” free openings. Therefore, the Royal Museums can be visited without tickets (except for the “Icon of Raphael” exhibition in the Royal Library and the “Vivian Maier Unedita” exhibition in the Chiablese Room). To go back in time and understand how the diligence of ancient humans created incredible wonders, it is worth visiting the Archaeological Gallery, which has just added a new permanent section to the Museum of Antiquities dedicated to the Mediterranean civilizations, which include rare beauty and priceless historical value. Masino Castle
Learning the sublime art of creating beauty through flowers and plants is more than just a profession. To find out, Castello Massino in Caravino is currently hosting the flower market exhibition “Three Days in the Garden”, organized by the FAI. In addition to admiring the collection of organic roses, hydrangeas, peonies, fruits and vegetables, on Sunday at 11 am there will be “Gardening fashions and ways 1992-2022” and at 3 pm “Masino thirty years later”.
