DUBAI, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) — The newly opened JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai has become the world’s tallest hotel at 354.7 meters, the Guinness World Records announced on Monday.
Rupprecht Queitsch, general manager of the five-star hotel, received the official Guinness World Records certificate on Monday, which he proudly showed to reporters.
The twin-tower JW Marriott Marquis Hotel is located in Business Bay in downtown Dubai, adjacent to the city’s main artery, Sheikh Zayed Road. It is taller than the Rose Rayhaan Rotana Dubai, which is 333 meters high and is only a 10-minute drive from the Marquis Hotel. Since its opening in January 2010, it has held the record for the world’s tallest hotel.
The 72-storey JW Marriott opened to the public late last month and features 1,608 rooms and 10 restaurants, offering guests stunning views of Dubai’s financial district and the world’s tallest, 828-metre-high mixed-use tower, Burj Khalifa.
According to US-based Marriott International, the total development cost of the hotel reached AED1.8 billion ($490.86 million).
