7 Lessons in Performance Marketing from 7 Years

As an accelerator for business growth through performance marketing, we are committed to delivering tremendous value and driving business growth.

But this isn’t a who’s who or a bragging list. We’ve taken what we’ve learned by engaging in campaigns, quick launches, data-driven change, and changing multiple creative lines to accelerate business growth in partnership with our clients.

Lesson 1

Business solutions are at the core. Performance agencies that invest in people, processes and technology provide clients with digital strategies to solve heavy business problems. The results that this approach enables are not emoji feelings or brand cues, but a series of daily decisions and market positioning initiatives based on hard data and often difficult judgments.

“I want what you sell” is the response we want your customers to make when they reach out.

Lesson 2

Investing in talent is critical. Performance teams are for self-driven people. People who thrive here want to overcome obstacles because they want to solve real problems with the tools at hand, because that’s what drives them. We’ve seen the power of training everyone on the team to think like a strategist, from identifying problems and developing strategies to solving them and executing like a marathon runner until we get the job done.

There are no power games here, just professional empowerment for everyone.

Lesson 3

Process is not negotiable. Our performance marketing brand is Intelligence in Action This requires our team to track and act on daily data while keeping the technology dynamics on track. From client onboarding to how we track performance, we find processes provide valuable support for consistency and accountability.

Mapping from A to X, process drives efficiency and accountability, and that’s why we care.

Lesson 4

It is best if the products we sell are tested by ourselves first. From customer service to programmers to event managers, we all love to try new things and test tools, techniques or methods on ourselves before applying them to client projects. We don’t build airplanes while they’re flying. We fly the airplanes and put our clients on board after we’ve flown them, and we ask them to trust us to fly the airplane.

Whether it’s an outward-looking strategy or a tool to build a database, we use it internally first and then consider it for our customers.

Lesson 5

Data-driven learning is fluid. Access to data keeps the mind sharp and gives us pause; it keeps us looking ahead and fuels our desire for greater intelligence.

We live in data and have built internal and external data ecosystems to gain insights and test our strategies.

Lesson 6

Precision is progress. Precision marketing requires us to focus on evidence that shows whether our work is hitting the mark, and to know how to reroute to achieve campaign goals. It all comes down to the experience of the team. We also learned the importance of investing our minds (not our bodies or time) in solving problems.

An effective approach is to mobilize the collective wisdom of the team to find the right strategy and implement it accurately.

Lesson 7

Performance is personal. We will never promise that we have a “magic bullet”, but we Will Selling our clients’ products to the right people in the right environment and ensuring their products or services are well positioned at every stage of the customer’s path to purchase. Business growth is personal to us, so we treat our clients’ business as our own.
