A 4-year-old boy was accidentally injured when a girl accidentally activated an air rifle belonging to the victim’s grandfather, who left the gun within easy reach.

The incident took place in Ciudad del Este, Alto Paraná. The boy was quickly transferred to the city’s regional hospital, where he was evaluated by a pediatric surgeon. According to the hospital, the bullet hit the parotid gland. Although the boy underwent surgery, he is currently in stable condition and is recovering. He must return to the hospital next Monday for a new evaluation.
The National Police Agency was notified of the incident and agents went to the care center to speak with the child’s grandfather. The grandfather reported that he had been shooting pigeons on the farm with a 5.5 caliber compressed air rifle and when he returned home he left the weapon in the living room without unloading it. While in the kitchen she heard gunshots and found her grandson lying on the floor with injuries.
