Tribute to the late Philip Nassif

Philip Nassif, a prominent figure in Dominica’s economic and social fields, passed away on Sunday, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy of entrepreneurship, generosity and community spirit. Nassif was born in Roseau on January 8, 1933.

Philippe is not only a savvy entrepreneur, he is also a true humanitarian who takes the initiative to help the community. He has established a nursing home and supports small businesses through the National Development Fund (NDFD).

He further expanded his philanthropy by establishing the Elias Nassief Foundation, dedicated to helping those in need, especially the elderly. His commitment to development and ethics earned him several honors, including the Dominican Honor Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Dominican Republic, in 1977.

In 2002, CARICOM named him one of the most outstanding voices of the Caribbean in the 20th century. In addition, in 2004, the University of the West Indies American Foundation named him one of the outstanding individuals who had an indelible impact on the Caribbean and the world in the last century.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said the late Mr Nassif left behind a strong legacy of leadership, entrepreneurship and community engagement.
