English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur has signed 18-year-old midfielder Archie Gray from English Championship side Leeds United on a contract that runs until 2030, the club said on Tuesday.
The club did not reveal financial details of the deal, but British media reports put it at around £40 million ($50.53 million).
Leeds United said the release clause was triggered by Tottenham’s failure to gain promotion to the Premier League in their first attempt following relegation in 2023.
Spurs said in a statement: “Archie is a member of the Gray football dynasty at Leeds United, with his father Andy, grandfather Frank and great-uncle Eddie all having played for the club.”
Gray is a graduate of Leeds United’s academy and made his first appearance for the first team last season.
Leeds United said: “The club understands the appeal of Premier League and European football and has agreed this transfer with a heavy heart, but this move strengthens the board’s resolve and finally puts Leeds United back in a position where it can fulfill the footballing dreams of its brightest star.”
