The Shadow of the Trees is finally here, and hundreds of thousands of players are returning to Elden Ring to track down the missing Mikaela. PC Gamer Portal (no spoilers) shared Provides helpful tips for those planning a trip.
Tree Shadow starts up pretty fast
While Shadow of the Erdtree is positioned as an add-on for players who have already made a lot of progress through the main plot of the game, it’s not necessary to fully complete it. It’s just that the DLC will be easier if you enter a new location and have upgraded gear.
Essentially, in order to open the path to the Shadow of the Great Tree, you only need to meet a few requirements. Namely, complete the White-Faced Vaal quest chain and defeat Mog. This isn’t the easiest quest for beginners, but experienced players will get by pretty quickly.
Activate the option to show new items
The latest patch for Elden Ring added a new setting to the game that lets you keep track of your new items. It’s really helpful – you can enable the option in the settings screen. This way you don’t lose your new weapons and armor in your inventory among the hundreds of items in the base game.
Try some new builds
Unless you’re sprinting full steam ahead to the beginning of Shadow of the Erdtree, you’ll probably arrive at the expansion with a comfortable build that’s already upgraded. And those who’ve played through the game more than once or twice will likely arrive with a full arsenal of good gear. But just for fun, try abandoning your usual strategy and trying something new. Shadow of the Erdtree offers a ton of new weapons and armor–baggage from the original game will only get in the way.
Don’t delay getting to know Michaela’s companions
Mikaela’s companions, who made a brief appearance in the second trailer, are the most important characters in Shadow of the Trees. They each offer their own quest chain, so it’s worth talking to them before you venture into a new area.
Don’t forget to look down
The world of Shadow of the Two Trees stretches not only upwards, but also downwards. Whenever you find yourself on the edge of a cliff, look beyond it – there may be a way down somewhere nearby. Try to observe the scenery not only in the open air, but also in ruins and caves. Of course, the add-on doesn’t prepare a separate underground map for players like the base Elden Ring does, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any surprises.
This add-on provides a lot of materials for upgrading your equipment
TreeShadows knows that players will want to try out new weapons right away, so they’ve made them almost as easy to upgrade with a large amount of materials. It doesn’t take a lot of resources to go from +10 smithing to +25, nor do you have to spend a lot of runes to buy ore at the Round Table. In addition, in the new locations you can find the larvae needed to reassign traits – just the right choice to try out new builds.
