Rai Benjamin led the United States to victory in the men’s 4x400m relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics in Paris on Saturday. Benjamin, a gold medalist in the 400m hurdles, helped the American quartet of Christopher Bailey, Vernon Norwood and Bryce Deadmon to a 2:54.43 Olympic record. Botswana took silver with 200m champion Letsile Tebogo in the fourth leg, breaking the African record of 2:54.53, while Britain took bronze in 2:55.83, breaking the European record. Quincy Hall, the United States’ individual 400m gold medalist in Paris, did not run in the relay.
Botswana’s Bayapo Ndori put the African nation ahead in the first leg, and Britain briefly led before Bryce Deadmon scored a brilliant goal for the United States in the third leg.
When the baton was passed to Benjamin, Tebogo followed closely behind him and rushed to the finish line, but Tebogo’s sprint was slower than the American.
