The Maldives Local Councils Association (MLCA) held its first general membership meeting yesterday.
The meeting was held in BC. In Kamado Province. The Minister of Cities, Regions and Public Works opened the first general meeting of the association.
Speaking at the ceremony, the minister said the government attached great importance to empowering the councils and strengthening the devolution system. He said the government would work with the parliament on such matters.
The minister said he would work with the government to take all necessary measures to carry out the association’s work in an inclusive manner.
Minister Adam Sharif said: “We are very determined to work with these organisations, both council and non-council, to do the work needed to strengthen the decentralised system.”
The MLCA is an association formed to work with councillors from municipal councils, atoll councils and village councils.
