Earlier on Wednesday, the court rejected Kathuria’s bail application and said CCTV footage showed that some passers-by even warned the driver about the possible danger ahead, but he ignored them.
Manoj Kathuria, the SUV driver arrested for allegedly killing three UPSC students in the basement of a coaching centre in Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar, walked out of Tihar jail on Friday, a day after a Tis Hazari court granted him bail, saying the Delhi Police had charged him with “overzeal”.
Kathuria was accused of driving his Force Gurkha vehicle through rain-flooded streets, causing water to flood the coach’s basement.

Earlier on Wednesday, the court rejected the bail application of Kathuria, a businessman, saying CCTV footage showed that some passers-by had even warned the driver about the possible danger ahead, but he ignored them.
Three students died when the basement of the IAS training academy in Old Rajinder Nagar was flooded on July 27. Several other students were reportedly trapped in the basement and the water was pumped out using a motor.
Following the tragedy, Rau’s IAS study circle announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to the families of three UPSC candidates who drowned when rainwater flooded the basement of the college.
The Delhi Municipal Corporation sealed 25 basements that were illegally used as coaching centres, offices or other commercial entities in different parts of the city between July 28 and July 31. The operation targeted institutions in Rajinder Nagar in central Delhi and Patel Nagar and Ranjeet Nagar areas in west Delhi, the report said.
