Stanimira Petrova recorded an epic victory over two-time world champion Huang Xiaowen in her first Olympic bout. The Bulgarian won by a 4-1 judges vote without appeal and scored a knockout in the decisive third round.
“The most important thing is to win the first game. This was my nightmare in my first two Olympics. If I fall again, I will not forgive myself,” said Stanimira after the game.
“I had nightmares because of the two losses in the last Olympics. But now it’s over,” added the Bulgarian.
“My next opponent is going to be tough. I have already played against both of them. Now I just need to relax and prepare for the next match,” she added.
Her next opponent for an Olympic medal will be China’s Anita Yuen. The two met this year at the “Strandja” tournament, which the Bulgarian won.
Supporting Stanimirá in the hall were also the president of the BOK Stefka Kostadinova and the liberals of our delegation.
