This is what the famous American fashion magazine Vogue said about Sofia, adding that the Balkan capital is currently the busiest city in Europe.

Home to one of the most famous film production studios in the Old World, Sofia has a thriving cultural life. It offers its residents numerous galleries, museums, ancient Roman heritage, and increasingly popular festivals dedicated to gastronomy, music, literature and the arts.

Vogue cites the National Gallery, where this summer’s retrospective of double Oscar-winning actress and photographer Jessica Lange was held. It also draws attention to the International Film Festival, which this year screened 170 films from more than 50 countries, and the Jazz Festival, which attracted more than 50,000 music lovers.

The magazine asked the Oscar-nominated Bulgarian actress Maria BakalovaShe describes Sofia as a place that combines history with modernity. “It’s one of the oldest capitals in Europe, but it continues to develop in such a vibrant and modern way. Every time I come back I notice how lively and cosmopolitan it has become, while retaining the unique charm of its cozy streets and aristocratic old buildings,” Bakalova says.
