Shannon Airport saw passenger numbers rise by 8% in the first six months of 2024, compared to the same period last year.
The airport handled 974,012 passengers from January to June this year, boosted by Delta Air Lines’ restoration of daily flights to New York’s JFK International Airport and increased frequencies to nine destinations in Europe and the UK over the summer.
Commenting on the growth in passenger numbers, Mary Considine, chief executive of Shannon Airport Group, said: “It has been a very busy first half of 2024 for Shannon Airport and we are pleased to see an increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year.
“Shannon Airlines flies to 33 destinations across Europe, the UK and the US this year and we are delighted to be able to offer our passengers summer frequencies to nine European destinations including Alicante, Faro, Lanzarote and Tenerife to cater for extra demand for those all-important family holidays during the school holidays.”
Shannon Airport recently retained its position as Ireland’s best airport brand according to the RED C Brand Reaction Index 2024 (BRI), demonstrating that Shannon Airport’s convenient, seamless and efficient operations continue to be popular with passengers.
Ms Considine continued: “As we move towards our goal of reaching two million passengers by the end of this year, we remain committed to providing a world-class experience for passengers flying into Shannon from all over the country.
“Despite being in the height of the summer travel season, our passengers continued to enjoy the seamless, hassle-free experience that Shannon Airport is famous for, with passengers travelling from the car park, through check-in and security in just minutes.
“On behalf of the entire Shannon Airport team I would like to thank passengers for their support and encourage people to continue to put Shannon first.”
