Apia, Samoa – September 2, 2024 – The Samoa Youth Dialogue is a key component of the Global Future Summit, bringing together youth leaders, policymakers and stakeholders to discuss pressing issues affecting Samoa’s youth and their future.
The dialogue was hosted by the National University of Samoa from August 27 to 28 and co-convened by the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator, the United Nations Samoa Country Team and the National University of Samoa.
according to “Multilateral solutions for a better tomorrow” The banner, Samoa Youth Dialogue, draws inspiration from the recent Global Action Summit for Children and Youth in Small Island Developing States held in Antigua and Barbuda. It focuses on the opportunities and challenges facing young people and advocates for their participation in decision-making processes at all levels.
Professor Tuifuisa’a Patila Amosa, Vice-President of the National University of Singapore, and Mr. Themba Kalua, United Nations Resident Coordinator, stressed the importance of youth participation in shaping the policies that affect their lives.
Professor Tuifuisa said: “The dialogue explored themes of global challenges such as climate change and environmental sustainability, highlighting Samoa’s vulnerability as a small island developing state.”
“The participation and energy of young people during the Samoa Youth Dialogue confirmed their important role as agents of change,” said the UN Resident Coordinator. “By amplifying their voices, we are committed to ensuring that the interests of Samoa’s youth are represented in local, national and global policy discussions.”

The dialogue included insightful panel discussions on youth empowerment and civic engagement, gender equality and social inclusion, and digital transformation and innovation.
Each session aims to foster intergenerational collaboration and illuminate the importance of cultural heritage in building resilient communities.
The meeting was attended by youth representatives, civil society organizations, government officials and various stakeholders committed to improving the future of young people in Samoa.

The second day of the event saw an intergenerational dialogue session on cultural preservation and threats facing Samoan youth, which highlighted the importance of preserving Samoan traditions amid globalization and environmental challenges.
At the end of the dialogue, participants expressed their commitment to drafting an outcome document, titled “A Compact for the Future” – an actionable framework that would address current challenges and prepare for future obstacles, for the benefit of humanity and future generations.
Overall, the Samoa Youth Dialogue embodied a collective vision to amplify youth voices, strengthen cultural resilience and ensure a sustainable future for all.
