MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A Rhodes College security guard’s car was hijacked on campus early Wednesday morning.
Police were called just before 2am after a security guard at the Spann Place security office said she had been robbed.
When she saw the security guard in the office, she noticed someone sitting in her car.
That’s when a man got out of the car, fired a shot, and followed her back to the security office.
The suspect pointed a rifle at the security guard and demanded the keys.
After handing over the keys, the suspect left the scene in a 2023 Dodge Challenger and headed west on Tutwiler Avenue.
The security guard was not injured in the incident.
The victim’s laptop, iPhone and wallet were inside the stolen car.
The suspect is described as a male between 18 and 20 years old, wearing a black jacket, a light grey sweatshirt, a black mask, black pants and black shoes.
Rhodes College issued the following statement regarding the crime:
“We can confirm to campus security dispatch that a dark blue Dodge Challenger vehicle was stolen from Tutwiler on the west side of the university. Notification was sent out to the campus community shortly after the incident. The suspect fired one shot and demanded the keys. We are thankful no one was injured. Rhoades is working with the Memphis Police Department to increase patrols in the area and will continue to conduct security patrols on and around campus.
