A group of retirees gathered in front of the IPS building in downtown Asuncion for a demonstration, demanding changes to the IPS statutes and retirement calculations.

They called for a working group of technical staff to be formed to oversee a project to revise the IPS charter, which they said had “very dangerous” articles, such as one that would have IPS focus on the uninsured.

“We wanted a work table where we could talk together and understand where they were getting their projects,” Pedro Halley said.

Another aspect of their demands is the retirement calculation, which aims to increase the period from 36 to 120 months, and they also want the pension authorities to be elected by the contributors and not by the government.

“IPS belongs to the contributors and we have the right to elect a competent president and board,” Halley said.
