Philippe Siu, Director of Tahiti Nui Pêche, unveiled his new tuna boat in the presence of many national and international celebrities.
The owner has already put two new 19.5-meter tuna boats into operation this year. Its fleet currently consists of five fishing vessels with an annual fishing capacity of 130 tons. Rawa Ainui VII was christened in February 2024.
Both projects were implemented by Nautisport Industries (NSI). For nine months, the company’s workshop worked on the construction site of a tuna boat and even two 25-meter-long boats. The maximum annual production capacity is four units.
The construction of the monohull started in November 2023. Like most tuna boats, the Rava’ai VIII is made of aluminum and is 17.44 m long from stern to bow, 6.7 m wide and has a draft of 1.78 m. Its full load displacement is 110 tons. It is also equipped with a 4 cubic meter bait capacity, a 44 cubic meter fish hold. It can accommodate 1 captain, 4 sailors and a berth for observers.
Advantages of tax exemption
Please note that these two boats are tax exempt as part of professional offshore fishing activities.
The total cost of the Rava’ai Nui VIII project is 485 million francs, of which 50 million francs are contributed by franc holders, 218,250,000 francs in local aid and 45% indirect contribution (CI). The completed fishing boats will now be able to carry out fishing trips of up to 25 days in territorial waters.
The tax exemption allows shipowners to reduce the cost of investing in vessels in French Polynesia by 25% to 50%. This system facilitates deep-sea fishing activities or fleet expansion while optimizing investment financing.
