American rapper Nicki Minaj cancelled a show in Manchester, England, on Saturday (May 25) after she said she was detained by police at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on suspicion of possessing soft drugs.

Manchester’s Co-op Live venue said in a post on X: “Despite Nicki’s best efforts and trying every possible avenue to go ahead with tonight’s show, today’s events have made that impossible.”

Minaj, 41, was detained hours before the show was set to begin.

Dutch military police confirmed that a 41-year-old American woman was detained on Saturday for possession of soft drugs, saying it is forbidden to take such substances out of the Netherlands.

Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the suspect, but a subsequent post on social media platform X said the woman had been fined and released at around 19:45 GMT.

It was 45 minutes into Minaj’s live show at Manchester’s Co-op.

The singer previously posted a video on X in which an employee at Schiphol Airport told her that police wanted to “search all her luggage”.

Another video on social media showed a police officer telling her she was “carrying drugs,” a claim Minaj denied in the video.

“Now they say they found marijuana and have to send another team here to weigh the pre-rolls,” she said in a subsequent post.

The former “American Idol” judge performed a show at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome on Thursday and will return there for another show on June 2.
