Kathmandu, August 16. Rain clouds have formed in Kosi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini districts. The clouds are moving from east to west. As a result, it rained all over the country today. The affected areas received moderate to heavy rains. Some places received very heavy rainfall.
As the rainfall poses a risk of flooding and landslides, meteorologists have advised extreme caution on the landslide-prone Narayangadh-Muglin stretch.
Pratibha Manandhar, meteorologist at the Weather Forecasting Department of the Water Resources and Meteorological Department, said that although the monsoon depression line is located south of Sadar district, it is currently raining due to the development of clouds from the outer ring of the cyclone in the Bay of Bengal. Clouds from Tibet are also coming to Nepal.
Meteorologist Manandar said: “The cyclone has moved westwards from the Arabian Sea but its outermost cloud ring has reached Nepal even though the low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal has penetrated the land, but it was also triggered by China.” Therefore, there is a situation where cloud formation and rain system are favorable and rain is falling.
As the monsoon flows from east to west, the rain-producing clouds that have now formed are also moving westwards.
Risk of flash floods and landslides
According to the water resources and meteorology department, Chitwan’s Kalyanpur recorded the highest rainfall of 153 mm in the last 12 hours. Similarly, Narayani field office measured 123 mm, Shaktikhor 107 mm and Devghat 93 mm.
According to the flood forecasting department of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, due to heavy rains, there is an increased risk of flash floods in the Ruhula River and other small rivers in the Madi area. The department has issued a notice asking for high vigilance during travel, saying that there is also a risk of flash floods and landslides on the Narayangad-Mugrin section.
Rain clouds have now spread to Karnali and Far West. Even if we look at the situation an hour ago, it was raining in Kosi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki. Meteorologist Manandar said, “It seems that the areas connected by Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini are receiving heavy rainfall now, and as things stand, it is also starting to rain in Karnali and Far West.”
According to him, it will rain all day today, stop for a while and then rain again. It is likely to rain this afternoon and evening. It is expected that the rainfall tomorrow (Monday) will be less than today.
