The battle between the alliance Smer and the opposition Progressive Slovakia is intensifying. According to current surveys by Slovakia’s NMS market research agency, the gap between the two is only 0.1 percentage points.
Progressive Slovakia won the election with 22.6% of the vote, followed by Smer with 22.5%. Even after Petr Pellegrini left the presidency, Hlas remained in third place with a margin of 13.1%.
“First, the two entities with the largest long-term voter support will come first: Progresívne Slovakia (22.6%) and Smer-SD (22.5%). Taking into account statistical deviations and close results, it is impossible to determine which party will come first and which will come second,” the National Statistics Office said in a published survey.

The online survey was conducted from July 4 to 8 with a sample of 1,020 respondents.
The far-right Republican Movement will also enter parliament, thus making it possible to retain support after the success of the European elections. 7% of respondents would vote for them. According to the survey, the movement has a chance to grow to 11%. “In order to increase voter support, the movement should ‘seek’ voters in particular from Smer-SD, which currently up to one in five potential voters in the Republic prefer,” the agency said.
The Christian Democrats will also increase their seats in the National Assembly by 6%, while the Freedom and Solidarity Party will gain 5.1%.
In the survey, the non-parliamentary Democratic Party has gained ground and will receive 4.6 percent. “However, their potential is limited to 8.2 percent, while a quarter of potential voters currently prefer Progressive Slovakia,” the NMS agency reported.
